Welcome to Department of Engineering Science

Engineering Science at the University of Auckland - Engineering Science is one of the five departments in the School of Engineering at the University of Auckland. We are responsible for two degrees: BE (Engineering Science) and BE (Biomedical Engineering). In addition we teach mathematical modelling to all engineering students and operations research to science and commerce students.

What is Engineering Science? - Engineering Scientists solve complex practical problems using mathematics and computers. They model a real-life situation by identifying the critical ingredients and finding mathematical equations for describing the process. By using this mathematical model and considerable computer power Engineering Scientists can simulate many different processes and provide useful solutions relevant to the real world.

Research - The department carries out research in Biomedical Engineering, Fluid Dynamics, Operations Research, Signal Processing and Solid Mechanics. For information on Research and Postgraduate Study at the Department, please click here

Follow the links below to learn more about some of the subject areas taught within the department
Biomedical Engineering is the application of principles and techniques from engineering to medical and biological problems.
Fluid Dynamics is the study of the way fluids such as water and air move.
Operations Research is a mathematical approach to best possible decision making.

Solid Mechanics is the study of the response and deformation of a wide range of materials
